Dental Implants

Tooth loss is a serious issue that affects every single aspect of your life. When you lose your teeth, even just one or two, once simple tasks suddenly become much more difficult. The more teeth you lose, the more difficult they become. Your smile is affected, which can impact your confidence. Your healthy teeth may shift out of their natural positions, throwing off your bite and causing other issues. Replacing missing teeth is essential for restoring your oral health, your smile, and your quality of life. At the office of Joseph Dautremont, DDS, we offer dental implants for your tooth replacement needs.

What Are Implants?

Dental implants are the latest option available for replacing your missing teeth, providing an alternative to bridges and dentures. They are a unique treatment that involves three major components:
•  The implant. The implant itself is a small titanium rod that is surgically inserted into the jawbone. The bone fuses to the rod, turning it into a stable root.
•  The abutment. The abutment is a connector that is placed on the top of the implant.
•  The crown. Made from ceramic, the crown replaces the visible portion of your missing tooth. It relies on the implant for support.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are highly versatile and can be used to meet a variety of different tooth loss needs. They can replace any number of missing teeth, from one tooth to all teeth. In order to meet your specific needs, there are several different types of dental implants.
•  Single tooth implants. As the name suggests, a single tooth implant is used to replace one single tooth in any given area of your mouth. One implant is used to support a single crown.
•  Multiple tooth implants. Commonly referred to as an implant supported bridge, this type of implant is used to replace a section of missing teeth. The exact number of implants required depends upon the condition of your jaw.
•  Implant supported denture. If you are missing an entire arch of teeth, you may be eligible for an implant supported denture. This type of implant sees an entire arch of replacement teeth supported by 6 to 8 dental implants.
•  All on 4® Treatment Concept. In the event that you have lost a significant amount of bone mass, the All on 4® Treatment Concept can help you to experience the benefits of implants without the need for a bone graft. Your arch of replacement teeth are supported on 4 strategically placed implants.

The Implant Procedure

Dental implants require a surgical procedure. We begin with a local anesthetic and sedation. Incisions are made in the gum tissue, providing us with access to your jawbone. We then drill holes into the bone, according to your treatment plan, and place the implants. The gums are sutured closed around the implants and temporary teeth are placed.

Healing from surgery can take up to several months, depending upon the number of implants you received. As you heal, we monitor your progress, making sure that the bone is properly fusing to the titanium rods. Once healing is complete, we begin the process of creating your permanent replacement teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Much like traditional methods of tooth replacement, dental implants restore the basic functions of your teeth, enabling you to bite, chew, and speak properly. They also provide you with a complete, beautiful smile. Along with these benefits, dental implants offer a whole host of other benefits, including:
•  They are more comfortable. The teeth are supported by the implants, rather than adjacent teeth or your gums.
•  They do not require any extra care.
•  They are permanent.
•  Implants stimulate the jawbone much as your natural teeth do. This helps to protect the health of the bone, preventing the bone loss that typically follows tooth loss. No other tooth replacement option can do this.

Dental implants provide a permanent solution to tooth loss, restoring your oral health, the beauty of your smile, and your quality of life. Call the office of Joseph Dautremont, DDS at (818) 570-8525 today to schedule your consultation and find out if dental implants are right for you.
